Configure Direct Calling
Set up the simpler Telnyx connection for ordinary one-to-one calls.
Direct Calling is the simpler Telnyx setup for ordinary one-to-one calls. It uses one Credential Connection and does not use the Multi-party Calling Voice API Application or conference webhook flow.
Keep credentials and account identifiers out of screenshots and support messages. Do not publish API keys, SIP usernames or passwords, phone numbers, or Connection IDs.
Before you begin
Have these items ready:
- a Telnyx account with an API v2 key;
- the outbound voice profile intended for this ChartHero environment;
- at least one authorized caller-ID number; and
- access to Settings → Telephony in ChartHero.
1. Create a Telnyx Credential Connection
In the Telnyx Mission Control Portal, search for SIP Connections, or open Voice Suite → SIP Trunking. Select Create Connection.
Enter an environment-specific name such as ChartHero Direct Dev. In the
connection type field, type or select Credentials, then choose Create.
Keep the generated authentication values unless your organization has a separate credential policy. Treat the SIP username and password as secrets even though ChartHero does not ask you to enter them. Leave Receive SIP URI Calls disabled for this outbound setup.
2. Configure Direct Calling behavior
On Configuration, keep the connection active and use Latency for AnchorSite. Leave encrypted media disabled unless your organization has tested and requires it.
The important difference from Multi-party Calling is:
- ChartHero Direct Calling does not require a webhook, so leave the webhook fields blank unless another approved workflow uses them; and
- leave Park all outbound calls disabled.
Retain the portal defaults under Advanced features. Leave Telnyx conversation persistence and noise suppression disabled unless your organization has a separately validated need for them.
3. Keep inbound defaults and select an outbound profile
ChartHero Direct Calling is outbound. Leave the inbound SIP subdomain, channel limit, and receive settings at their portal defaults.
On Outbound, select the voice profile intended for this environment. Leave the channel limit unset unless your Telnyx account requires an explicit limit.
Assign at least one authorized caller-ID number, then complete the wizard. A number can be attached to only one Telnyx resource at a time, so do not move a number that another active connection depends on.
4. Add the connection in ChartHero
For a personal connection, open Settings → Telephony. For an organization connection, select the organization and open Configuration → Telephony. Select Add Connection, then choose Telnyx.
Enter a friendly Connection Label and your secret Telnyx API v2 key. The label is only a ChartHero name; it does not need to match the Telnyx resource.
Then:
- select the Telnyx Credential Connection you created;
- choose Direct Calling;
- do not select a Voice API Application; and
- configure which assigned numbers should be available in ChartHero.
Finish setup and place a one-to-one test call. If a call remains parked or does not dial its destination, reopen the Telnyx Credential Connection and verify that Park all outbound calls is disabled.
